I had a similar experience with Washington Mutual. They said that a credit card application could be approved in as little as 30 seconds. However, when I applied they told me that a decision would be sent in the mail. I thought it meant I was declined, but about 2 weeks later I received my card in the mail. Also remember that if you are declined you have the right to receive a free copy of your credit report. They will instruct you on how to obtain this in the letter they send you.
References :
http://www.thetruthaboutcreditcards.com/your-credit-card-application-has-been-declined/

Chase Online Credit Card Application response?
Received pre-approved offer in mail for Chase Visa Platinum credit card, applied online using offer code and received email response after submitted:

"We will notify you of your approval status in 30 days by U.S. Mail...etc."

Does anyone have any experience with this kind of response and what it could mean? Good sign, are they actually considering the application or is it a bad sign for getting approved? Are online credit card normally applications immediately approved or not?

I only have 2 cards, not high limits and good credit score.
